2020 Annual Report

aimee

2020 was a deeply difficult year. I wasn’t sure how I would feel when I sat down to write this. But, as I look back, I have to tell you — I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished, in spite of everything, because of you.

—Aimee Arrambide, Avow Executive Director

Virtually Everywhere

Thanks to you, we expanded our ability to communicate and mobilize across the state — even in the face of a pandemic.

Unapologetic and All About Abortion

For too long, candidates in Texas believed talking about abortion would hurt their chances. But we know that’s not true. So, we held three All About Abortion forums in competitive districts during the primary. Not only did candidates show up, the community came out, too.

Better than a questionnaire

For the first time in decades, we endorsed candidates (26 of them!). But it wasn’t just about a questionnaire, because this isn’t just about one campaign cycle. Our endorsement process is about changing the culture for good.

Culture change requires accountability. That’s why all 26 Avow endorsed candidates took this pledge:

Abortion Access Champions Pledge

  • Vote against any legislation that restricts or stigmatizes abortion
  • Use language that destigmatizes abortion and doesn’t cause any further harm to abortion rights and access
  • Vote for a Speaker of the House who supports abortion rights
  • Join and be an active member of the Women’s Health Caucus
  • Introduce or co-sponsor a bill that expands or destigmatizes abortion access

A New Kind of Campaign

It isn’t just about one campaign — it’s about changing the way we talk about abortion
on the campaign trail, at the legislature, and in our daily lives.

And changing it for good.

Changing the Game in Real-time

26 candidates completed the endorsement process — and created immediate change on the campaign trail.

We're not backing down

As we head into another campaign cycle, we’re excited to build upon these milestones with you. We proved that even in the face of a global pandemic, the fight for abortion rights in Texas is a critical part of the political conversation. Together, we will create a world where every Texan is thriving, trusted, and free to pursue the life they want.

Let’s be bold.

BREAKING: Supreme Court Overturns Roe v Wade

Texas could soon criminalize all abortion. But together, we still have the power to take back our futures. Right now, Avow canvassers are working in the field and talking to voters about what abortion access means to our communities.

When we win back abortion rights at the state level, no out-of-touch, extreme judge will ever have the power to take it away again. Rush a donation and commit to restoring abortion access in Texas.

FIGHT THE TEXAS ABORTION BAN

SB 8 bans abortion as early as 6 weeks and puts a $10,000 bounty on anyone who helps someone get abortion care. Now more than ever, we need unapologetic abortion rights advocates to lay the groundwork to defeat anti-abortion lawmakers.

Chip in to organize Texans to restore abortion access in our state. The organizing we do today determines the gains we make in 2022.
