TEXAS – With all eyes on Texas for the Texas Primary Election, voters chose who will represent their preferred political party during November’s Midterm Election. The Democratic Party’s early voter turnout was the highest it’s been in two decades.

As an abortion-forward organization contending for reproductive justice governance, Avow is calling on our fellow Texans to mobilize for candidates until November who see the material conditions Texans are living in and who have a justice-driven plan to meet this moment. We deserve leaders who will fight for our access to healthcare, food, public education, housing, and communities free of gun violence and state-sanctioned violence.

Regardless of yesterday’s election outcomes, regardless of who will hold the seats of power in November, we vow to hold elected officials accountable to Texans. Not billionaire donors. Not right or left. Not red or blue. Texas is setting the agenda for where a party that delivers for working families needs to go.

Avow Texas Executive Director raven e. Freeborn (they/them) issued the following statement:
“In Texas, the reality of our material conditions is that abortion bans are killing us. We have the highest number of uninsured adults and children. We are the only state that imprisons children and families kidnapped by ICE. Too many Texans are forced to choose between paying rent and buying food. The only solution to this system of oppression is governance that centers us and centers justice.

“Texans will no longer numbly accept leadership that governs through punishment and cruelty. We are contending for governing power that is rooted in care and abundance. We are clearly voting for leaders who will help us build a Texas where reproductive justice governs at the center, and we will hold them accountable to that vision, no matter who is elected to lead us on the statewide and national stage in November.”

FIGHT THE TEXAS ABORTION BAN

SB 8 bans abortion as early as 6 weeks and puts a $10,000 bounty on anyone who helps someone get abortion care. Now more than ever, we need unapologetic abortion rights advocates to lay the groundwork to defeat anti-abortion lawmakers.

Chip in to organize Texans to restore abortion access in our state. The organizing we do today determines the gains we make in 2022.
