HOUSTON – “Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing more providers for allegedly shipping abortion medication into Texas. Paxton’s office announced a new suit Tuesday against Aid Access, a nonprofit based in Austria, as well as two medical providers.” [KERA News, Feb 25, 2026]

The Reality of Texas’ Abortion Ban:

Since SB 8 went into effect in 2021:

  • Maternal deaths in Texas have increased by 56%
  • Sepsis rates have risen by 50%
  • Infant mortality has gone up by 13%

Background on Tierra Walker’s case:

  • Tierra Walker, a San Antonio mother who died due to Texas’ abortion ban, was afraid to order pills that could have potentially saved her life.

“In her condition, Walker couldn’t fathom leaving the state. When her aunt suggested ordering abortion medication online, Walker was worried she could go to jail. She was spending so much time in the hospital; what if she got caught taking the pills?”  [ProPublica, November 25, 2025]

Avow Texas Policy Director Yaneth Flores issued the following statement:

“Tierra Walker, a Black San Antonio mother who died due to Texas’ abortion ban, was afraid to order pills that could have potentially saved her life. She was ignored by over 90 doctors who were afraid to intervene for two reasons: Paxton’s rhetoric and a medical system that ignores the pain and needs of Black patients.

“Instead of serving Texans, Paxton has yet again misused our tax dollars to attack the providers helping us. The true threat to pregnant Texans comes from abortion bans, the threat of criminal penalties, and the confusion and fear that Paxton’s lawsuits spread for both providers and people who need care. Let me be very clear: People are dying because of abortion bans. Paxton’s misplaced priorities strip Texans of dignity, respect, and access to trusted care.”

FIGHT THE TEXAS ABORTION BAN

SB 8 bans abortion as early as 6 weeks and puts a $10,000 bounty on anyone who helps someone get abortion care. Now more than ever, we need unapologetic abortion rights advocates to lay the groundwork to defeat anti-abortion lawmakers.

Chip in to organize Texans to restore abortion access in our state. The organizing we do today determines the gains we make in 2022.
