In Texas, abortion is banned and criminalized, while anti-abortion misinformation, stigma, and disinformation spread unchecked, distorting the truth.
Since the passage of SB 8, one thing has become clear: restricting bodily autonomy is more than a policy goal; it is a critical part of how Texas governs. During the 2025 legislative session, this was demonstrated with over 130 bills filed to further restrict abortion, criminalize gender affirming care, and prosecute efforts to access vital reproductive healthcare.
Many may assume the fight for abortion access is simply a moral argument. However, Avow asserts that we will not recover abortion access or protect reproductive rights by solely convincing people that seeking abortion is a responsible healthcare decision.
In Texas, lawmakers are not guided by collective morality or a people-centered majority. They are guided by power – who has it, and who they have it over.
If officials aren’t leading in the right relationship with the interests of Texans, then we must all ask ourselves: How much power are we willing to hand over to extremist control?
Here at Avow, we’ve been asking that question, and our answer is clear: we’re not handing over any more power. We’re organizing to take it back.
We believe the fight for justice is about affirming our right to safety, dignity, and care. Avow has taken a bold strategic step, turning our full attention toward communities.
We refuse to leave the Capitol undefended. And still, we know the fight must extend beyond its walls. We must gain ground in every place where power is contested and stories about bodily autonomy and community power are shaped. The real battle is happening in conversations, courtrooms, classrooms, and communities across Texas. That’s where we build lasting power.
In doing so, we’re boldly reclaiming the fight for a better Texas where every person is trusted, thriving, and free to pursue the life they want. We’re building power with everyday Texans to shape an agenda rooted in reproductive justice that names what our communities truly need, maps out how we win, and pushes our civic culture toward lasting change.
Our programs and actions are guided by a core aim: to close the gap between government and the people it’s meant to serve. We believe that reproductive justice is essential to building pro-abortion governance and creating systems where communities lead decision-making.
This is the Texas we’re fighting for, where power is shared, truth is protected, and every person is trusted to make decisions about their own body and life.
